Why Turkey?

Turkey is home to more than 80.8 million people and is spread throughout various continents, including Eurasia, the Middle East, Western Asia, the Balkan Peninsula, and Southeast Europe. Greece, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Nakhchivan, Iran, Iraq, and Syria are among the eight nations it borders on land. Additionally, it borders the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, and the Aegean Sea.

Turkey has experienced numerous invasions and occupations over its long and convoluted history. Turkey is still a fantastic option for any student, despite the ongoing political unrest. The country has opened up to the west while keeping its traditional beliefs, creating a very diversified society. In Turkey, you may also notice traces of the Anatolian and Ottoman cultures.

In the academic year 2020–21, more than 220,000 foreign students selected Turkey as their country of study. In the coming years, the Turkish government hopes to boost this number by luring 350,000 foreign students. Students have the opportunity to receive a distinctive higher education experience at Turkish universities. In Turkey, there are 183 institutions of higher learning, 109 of which are public universities, while the remaining 74 are private, nonprofit institutions. You can earn a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, or a doctorate.

Despite being one of the newest in the world, the Turkish higher education system is already developing a solid reputation across the globe. The top 600 QS World University Rankings for 2023 include four Turkish universities. Koç University, which is ranked =477th, is the best-ranked institution. Middle East Technical University, which is listed in the 501–510th range, is the next-highest ranked institution. Six more Turkish universities rank among the top 1,000.

Turkey, known for its long history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes, is dominated by extremely popular locations that welcome countless numbers of tourists every year.

Turkey’s heritage and culture have been impacted by many cultures over the course of its history, including Armenian, Roman, and Greek cultures. The nation was a component of the six-century-old Ottoman Empire, which ruled over a number of states in Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Turkey has a wide range of activities, including hot air balloon excursions that are popular on social media and exploring the foggy highlands of the Eastern Black Sea. But there’s more to explore in this exceptional nation!

Turkey is a popular destination for history buffs and those with enquiring minds interested in ancient history because of the significant archaeological discoveries there, such as the Lycian tombs. Turkish beaches along the Mediterranean are two other tourist destinations, as are Istanbul’s skyline, which is dominated by minarets and domes. This is a place that demands to be discovered!

Opportunities

Turkey’s official currency is the Turkish Lira (TRY).

Your tuition costs will vary depending on where and in what language you decide to enroll. Turkish-language degree programs are frequently less expensive than English-language programs. Additionally, private universities will cost more than public ones. An annual cost of between TRY 1,600 and 9,000 is typical for a degree from a public institution. Private institutions are allowed to determine their own tuition rates, and they typically charge up to TRY 110,000 year. For international students, there are several scholarships available, some of which offer health insurance, monthly stipends, and waivers of tuition.

Turkey ranks second in the world for ease of access to higher education and is home to approximately 200 universities. That provides you an idea of the wide range of educational options available. Additionally, it has more than 20,000 degree programs taught in English and enrolls more than 600,000 overseas students.

The Turkish Government offers scholarship opportunities to international students at all levels of education. They also place focus on scholarship opportunities for people from developing countries. You can find out more about scholarship opportunities abroad here.

Where you decide to live will affect your cost of living. The cost of living will be higher in the larger cities than in the smaller ones. Budget between TRY 2,700 and TRY 2,000 on average each month. Your lodging, food purchases, and travel are covered by this. You should set up between TRY 500 and TRY 800 per semester for books and potential administrative fees in addition to your living expenses. Health insurance is a further expense that students should take into account. Either register with the Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK) or make sure you have an active health insurance plan that covers you during your academic career. Contact your institution for advice.
